Is honesty the best policy?

Today a person asked me “how is teaching?” and honestly I’m going to give you the truth answer. A truth answer is 100% honesty. I have been giving a somewhat half-assed version of an answer because of several reasons*:

*several reasons is an exaggeration, I meant one main reason

Basically I had to explain to my dad a while back that this is a new stage in my life, not a step down from my previous job, where I worked for a media agency. Nothing you do will be a step down. I am taking a break, and a much needed one. I ended up in a cycle of constant stress due to the passion I had for my role. However, this took over and consumed my mind quicker than anything known to man.

I’m on a path of some sort, but I am on cruise control (neutral gear). Taking a different route isn’t taking a step back in your career. I don’t have to always keep on climbing to gain success. That’s not how it works for me (and I hope for others).

I’m going off topic, I think.

So back to my friend: “how is teaching?”

Well I like that my week has slowed down to 1 working day although I am in dire need of more work. 10 hours of English for young child is a lot for them and for myself. So it’s a challenge to devise fun and exciting ways for them to learn. My day consists of a lot of being firm and running, playing, painting. It’s different and great for my mind. Am I enjoying it? 50/50. I am learning though that I am not a patient person and that children need to behave a bit more than they do. The hardest part is being out of my comfort zone, having moments where I just want to cry.

So that’s my answer. But then again would people rather hear the half-assed version?
