A Nation Under Siege

With sixty foot flames as far as the eye can see, dark of night at mid morning. A blood red sun just visible sets the eerie scene from what seems like a horror movie. All states of Australia have been subjected to the flames of wrath burning anything that stands in it’s way. Much of the country is still currently ablaze from the ravenous clutches of it’s force. People terrified beyond belief running for their lives trying to escape what seems to be a catastrophic apocalyptic event. Supermarkets shelves bare, petrol stations have run dry, a state of emergency declared. Tourists told to leave holiday resorts, with a message if you don’t live here, get out now while you still can.

A calamity never before seen from a millennium generation. Winds of up to 80 knots fan its flames, creating its own force of energy turning a gentle gust to a category 3 tornado over turning twenty tone fire trucks like they were a child's toy. Fire balls appearing and engulfing a multitude of homes, fifteen million hectares of land and increasing have been destroyed. Half a billion wildlife that make the bush lands their home have succumbed, to which some species will never recover.

Down but not out, hurt but lending a hand where one can is the Aussie spirit, camaraderie to our fellow brother and sister, providing a refuge of hope for those who have lost everything, who have no choice but to start over. Special forces providing food and shelter, ferrying those that had been cut off from immediate intervention to safer ground. Air support, and water bombing from above an already fire ravaged country side, and dropping in crucial supplies to remote areas that had lost power. Animals being shown a warm heart of compassion from humans are being rescued, given food and water and have been provided a safe haven.

Yet this country Australia the land we call home, through the devastation in which it has suffered great loss still continues to pull together. We are the survivors, this is our story of hope and of love. Giving what we have to make a difference to someone who has lost everything is a gift, and an act of kindness that speaks louder than words. In a time where people are scared beyond scared, angry that this has happened to them, and wanting nothing better than to lay blame, people who are hurting with beyond unimaginable circumstances. Yet through the thick of it are all rallying together to make what has been made wrong right.
