I Need to Read The Lord of the Rings

Written by J.R.R. Tolkein, The Lord of the Rings is one of the pillars of the fantasy genre. Universally praised for its world building with the inclusion on its own languages and the relationships built between the characters. These books are a must read for any fantasy fan.

The Lord of the Rings tells the story of Frodo Baggins, a Hobbit that has inherited a magical ring from his Uncle Bilbo Baggins. Infused with the evil of its creator – Sauron – the ring does more than just turn the wearer invisible – it also corrupts them. Fighting the temptation of the ring, Frodo must journey to where the ring was forged and cast it into the fires of Mount Doom.

The movie of The Fellowship of the Ring was released in 2001 and since then The Lord of the Rings has been one of my favourite film series of all time. They are special to me and I have seen them many, many times and can quote most of The Two Towers.

I believe it was Christmas of 2003 that I asked for the books and my dad delivered on that. I received a box set of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the covers in amazing colours with Elvish around the top and bottom of the covers. They have been looking pretty in my bookcase now for about fifteen years.

I started to read The Fellowship of the Ring but I never got far and since then I haven’t opened them again. This is such a shame because they are considered a must read for fantasy readers. I have even played the video games, which means I have consumed almost all the content related to the Lord of the Rings except reading the words that started it all!

My goal is to have them all read before the end of 2019.
