Happiness is Hard Work

70–80% of our 50,000–70,000 daily thoughts are negative

My mother told me the only time that I ever threw a temper tantrum was when I wanted an Oscar the Grouch stuffed animal from the toy store.

I should have known I was destined to have a little bit of crankiness to my personality. After all, most kids went after Elmo, Big Bird, or Ernie — not the green guy living in a trash can, slightly bitter towards the world.

For many of us, being happy doesn’t come naturally. It takes work.

All of us are fighting instincts, brain chemistry, and society to be happy.

In her book, Practical Law of Attraction, Victoria Gallagher explains one of the many reasons it can be difficult to avoid negative thoughts.

Most of us aren’t even aware of our negative thinking because they take place at a subconscious level. Maybe you have a constant feedback loop running in the back of your mind where you are constantly worried about money. Or you are permanently on edge thinking about all the things on your to-do list — this one is my personal nemesis.

With all these things to worry and stress about playing on a broken record in our minds, it’s no wonder happiness doesn’t come easy.
