How to Automatically Create Confluence Pages from Jira Issues?

It does exactly what it says on the tin. EIJ can integrate your Jira instance with any platform using REST API calls, and Confluence is not an exception. You can streamline your content creation by using EIJ’s built-in “Confluence page creation” capability to save your time and increase productivity. Let’s have a look at the use-case of this nifty built-in feature from the trenches!

During the digital transformation journey of one of our customers, adopting Atlassian JIRA and Confluence for the company’s HR department was the key to establish automated processes. For instance, employees used to print out their leave forms such as annual leave, sick leave etc. and have signed from a couple of approvers. It was time-consuming and meant a lot of paperwork!

As you can guess, instead of following the physical approval procedure, automated JIRA workflows for this HR processes saved a significant amount of time for each employee, their line managers and the HR department. On top of that, EIJ made it possible to archive HR leave forms on Confluence automatically thanks to its built-in Confluence page creation feature. But how? Let’s dive into this!

First, you need to add a “Create Confluence page using a template page” post function to your workflow transition which you would like to create a Confluence page once it’s executed.

Let’s decide when our post function will execute. Easy Integrations for Jira gives you great control and flexibility with this decision. You can type your own Groovy script in order to programmatically decide to execute a post function or not.

Easy Integrations for Jira provides a strong templating feature where you can use all issue attributes including summary, assignee, priority and many other systems or custom field values.

For this, you basically create a Confluence page as a template using dynamic parameters provided by our app. Here is how a template page looks like:

Then you select this page in the post function by either searching with its name or entering its page ID.

In this part, you can select where the Confluence page will be created. You can select a parent page (folder) by either searching with its name or entering its page ID.

The last part of the post function is to define parameters for the Confluence page template. You can define;

You can define unlimited parameters. Check this page to see some examples.

And that’s it.

Now our Confluence page is ready to be created.

We added this post function to Send to Approval transition, so when we click Send to Approval, our Confluence page will be created.

Here it is! Brilliant…
